American Cheerleader Magazine
I get American Cheerleader Magazine in the mail. I wish I could stop my subscription and get my money back. You may ask why? Well I am sorry if I offend anyone, I honestly do not mean to, but this magazine which is supposed to all about cheerleading has interviews and stories and crap like that about famous people who used to cheer on their community teams. It has clothes and cool products out there to use, hairstyles and makeup tips. I get Seventeen Magazine to read all this stuff. By subscribing to American Cheerleader Magazine I was expecting to get a magazine full of cheerleading tips on stunts, tumbling, cheers, and more. While it does have this stuff, it is just a minor section compared to what is in the rest of the book. That sucks.

oh yeah, by the way.. one of my former coaches, Craig Callaway, works at American Cheerleader and one of the reasons they don't show a lot of difficult tumbling and not a whole lot of stunts is because some squads don't have the proper coaching and that kind of stuff so it may be dangerous. i mean, just because you read an article about how to do a full twist, doesn't mean you're gonna be able to go out and do it by yourself the first time. you need people to spot and coach you. sadly, most girls aren't that good so it would be pointless anyways to put something that advanced in there anyway. so they try to put stuff that everyone can do.

i do agree about the celebrities that are always in there though. who cares if some actress was a cheerleader before!? i know i don't. i'm trying to convince Craig to take that part out, and now that i know several of you feel that way also, so that will help when i tell him i'm not the only one who feels that way.

one thing i always wonder why they don't put in is tips on how to do better jumps. that's something people can try without having a spotter (like you need in tumbling). oh well...

yeah, it's kind of dumb. one time one of the "honorable mention" girls said she was a great tumbler and all she could do was a round-off back tuck. that's horrible!!!

but yeah, i was in the article "Juggling Act" in AC last month (january) and this month my friend Apryl (they spelled her name wrong, like April in the magazine) and her stunt partner from SFA are in there for "Stunt School" this month. I've actually been in that magazine twice.

I was hoping for articles on stunting and strength training because I know I could be a stronger base, but I never really knew what kinds of strengthening exercises I could do, so I subscribed to AC. There was almost nothing. I just got one in the mail today. Half of the thing was pictures of squads who won at competitions I've never heard of, fashion articles, and articles about cheerleaders, not cheerleading. And at the end of the magazine they have pictures of a squad doing a stunt. More often than not they are collegiate level stunts and my squad can't do them! And they don't even tell you how to do the stunts. It's just like "OOOH! Look at the pretty pictures!"
