Training
I am extremely interested in playing field hockey. I was wondering if any of you had any tips on how to train to prepare myself for the upcoming season this fall. I want to be the best darn field hockey player there is. Some people say you have to be in awesome shape, others say it really doesn't matter, but I was just wondering your opinion on that. Do you have to be able to run quite a bit, lift weights? I'm pretty clueless, and I don't even know why all the sudden I want to play, but please help! Also if you could tell me some of the basic skills and rules of field hockey. Thanks. :-)

Hey...that's really tight that you wanna play field hockey. It's an awesome sport and you meet a lot of cool girls in the sport too! Well...you need to be very very prepared mentally and physically to play. You should def. do a little weight lifting...you could always just do the simple push-ups and situps and pull ups(try to) like every other day. Then you need to be able to run at least 2 miles. I would suggest you start off slow and then work ur way up to doing 2 miles or more. You might wanna do sprinting on tues. and thursdays and then long distance on mon. wed. and fri. and then on sat. too. Go to camp as well. If you have any other friends that wanna do fh too....ask em to go to camp with you.

Yah, you definitely need to go to a camp and practice running, types of shots, and dribbling almost every day!

hey! thats cool that you live up here.. but anyways.... the camp is the White Mountain Sports field hockey camp at Deerfield academy in Deerfield mass. Its in the western part of the state. About 2 hours west of boston, 1 hour north of hartford. They have 3 sessions, a shoot and save for goalies and scorers, a team week where your school can go as a team, and the open week for anyone. They're web site is www.whitemountainsports.com it'll give you all the info you need about the camp. Hope to see you this summer!

There are a lot of different things you can do to train for an upcoming field hockey season. I'm obsessed it's my life. Like the other girls said you should definately be able to run anywhere from 3-6 miles. You should do some light weight lifting and get signed up for a camp. I can give you info on a great one if you live in the east. Try buying a relatively inexpensive stick and a ball and playing around. But remember to always stay low with your knees bent. Once you pick up on the bad habit of bending all at the waist you're dead. Anyways if you want the info just reply

You definately need to go check out a camp or something. Theres alot of them during the summer. I would say you have to be in pretty good shape so I also would recommend running daily. Also you need to have good stick skills. What position were you interested in playing because theres different things you need to be able to do for the positions. Email me if you want...saywhat25@hotmail.com
