A Dangerous Sport!
Why would you want to play a sport that is so violent?  You can watch hockey on TV all the time and someone is always getting hit or pushed into the windows, or people start fighting.  Why would you even want to play a game if you're going to fight about it?  It is so stupid.  Why can't hockey just be a regular sport and you just play the game it is supposed to be played, instead of always having to fight or knock someone around.  Why can't you play the game because that is the sport that you love to play?

Dangerous Sport! hockey is one of the best sport ever. ive been playing hockey for 6 years and i am a girl and its a great sport and it's physical. but when you play on a all guys team like me you have to know how to handle yourself and i get hurt all the time but you dont see me crying. anyway if i get hurt my team flips and beats up the kid. so its a great sport much better then figure skating.i :) ice hockey!

i play or have played just about every sport you can get hurt doing everything i blew out my knee after jumping a hurtle in a TRACK meet.... i landed funny in softball i broke my wrist sliding in to home base ( i still played hockey tho ) in soccer i got flipped upside down and landed on the top if my shoulder leaving me in a sling for a month. cheerleading i got dropped because my base had a hang over and couldnt focuse. but the wors thing thats ever happened to me in hockey is when some girl took me down on the boards and sliced my arm open with her skate. its not like people purposely try and hurt you in hockey its that accidents happen in every sport but people want to critise hockey because it's a way more common sport.

ive played hockey since i was like 5 years old. ive been playing for 10 years and i :) it so much. its only violent if u make it violent. im a girl and i play on a boys team. its way more fun than the girls. girls is ruff but if u accutally hit the girl u get a penalty for it. its so stupid. n plus wuts more fun than getting to spend all the time with hott guys!

Why, then would you want to play football, where many dirty and smelly men tackle each other and possibly are squished by as many as 8 people or more at once?

Why, then would you want to play basketball, where a player could charge you and send you flying backwards onto the hard wooden floor?

Why, then would you want to play baseball, where the pitcher hurls a 90 mile-an-hour that could potentially hit you?

Why, then would you want to play golf, where an alligator could come out of the pond you hit your ball into and eat your leg too? (okay that was a little dimented, but still)

-Need I say more?

Clearly it is a very safe sport. Hockey is a great sport and there are rules to what you are allowed to do to another player.. Charges will be made if rules are broken. I believe that it is a violent sport but thats all the fun and no player is allowed out on the ice without proper equipment. Hockey is a great sport, you either like it or you dont. Thanks for posting your thoughts!!!

Hockey is my favorite sport. I just find something very cool about it. I :) winter sports. I personally find basketball/ba  seball/soccer more boring and not as entertaining.

Yes, people do get hurt but its part of the sport. People get hurt in other sports, just not to such a great extent. Some people just :) playing so much, that its worth it.

Obviously, you do not understand the underlying concept of the amazing sport.
Kati 13-Aug-04
also the newspapers go over board and say this and that. when you watch hockey a lot you will understand there are some players who fight and some who score goals. and the officals are also very biased. the players also cant rightly pick on rookies or else the other team gets on them etc. the checks, some a legal some arnt. and if the person is in the wrong the get a penalty.
Kati 13-Aug-04
I :) hockey beceause I am Canadian and it our winter national sport and because hockey totaly kicks butt. Its so much fun to watch, but to play is so much more fun. Try it and maybe you will understand. anyways have you seen all the protective padding you have to wear playing hockey?!

Everyone who supports hockey, I agree with you. You've all made really good points!

We LOVE hockey because it's so exciting. The fights are just part of the game, they even add a little excitment. What about Football? That game is more violent than hockey. I don't play ice hockey (I'm a figure skater and can't even stand up on hockey skates! !) But I absolutly :) to watch it and go to almost every game of my hometown (the washington capitals). The reason that I :) it so much is because it's nonstop action. Football stops every minute or so, so it's boring. Hockey really doesn't stop unless there is a penalty. I will stand by hockey my whole life, and I wish more than anything that I could play it. But I'm absolutly hopeless on hockey skates. I :) hockey for the excitement, something you obviously don't understand.

Hitting and pushing is the way that the bigger players, the players who can't skate fast enough or those who aren't extremely talented use to slow the others down. Hockey isn't supposed to be that way. Nowadays, the game is always stopped because there is so much pushing and hitting involved. Hockey is supposed to be something else entirely. I hate watching my Habs lose because they are so small and they keep getting shoved by the big players of the other teams. I hate watching a good player being slowed down by a big player who's leaning on him... It's just not the way it's supposed to be played!

"..pushed into the windows"
PS: its not windows its called the glass, sum ppl cal it the boards but thats mostly referring to the wooden/plastic part below, you do know what ice is right... the stuff that you get when water gets cold....

carly wtf is ur problem dont go dissing cheerleaders. i dont defend her at all bc HOCKEY IS AWSOME (as i said below) ive played since i was 8 in a league and well since i was 5 with my dad. but cheerleading is a sport too and stunting is just as hard so dont diss it- i will luv canada and hockey fur evr!
katie 21-Mar-04
so there are a few fights, its not part of the game dont go dissing hockey just bc a few ppl take it too far. there are many other rougher sports and yeah i get knocked around but its worth it. its not a stupid or dumb sport its AWSOME! if u tried it u mite like it

Listen I have played hockey since i was a little kid. I've played amny other sports competatively throughout my life, and have found that hockey is the most emotional sport! You live or die out on the ice! Fights run purely on adreniline, frustration, and motivation. Most of the time tho, it's not tryin to hurt the other guy. Watch in the NHL sometimes when two guys go, at the end they congraduate each-other on a decent dueling. And for the hitting aspect, it's part of the game! If you can't hit another person, how the heck do you think you can get the puck away from someone? some players can make you look dumbfounded by their skills! hitting gives the defensive aspect of the game a boost! and whut a boost it does!
Peace out ~ "I AM CANADIAN"

All sports have some degree of danger to them, I did ballet and broke my ankle, Anythings dangerous, you just gotta be smart n you'll be fine!...Besides a little bit of danger is fun ;)
Ashleigh View Profile 24-Nov-03
dude...what about football? they hit each other harder than they do in hockey, and it's a constant thing! You honestly have a better chance getting hurt in football, and body-checking is a PART OF THE GAME!

Hey,
i was just taking a look at ur article. Even tho i dont play hockey, i watch my step brothers hockey like every week, since i know all the guys and parents on the team now, i go all the time, and i enjoy watching it. I believe that hockey isnt that dangerous of a sport..u just mainly need to know how to play the game, and be in a certain level that your sposed to be in ...if u dont want to make a commitment to move up to a higher level. I believe that if you are going to play hockey, ur basically making a commitment which means that you know u might get hurt, but anyone who plays hockey is willing to take that chance. Not one player i know gets hurt like every week, its like maybe if ur lucky 5 times a year...not many
neways good article
tons of :)

Thats how hockey is!, would you find it more interesting if someone apoligized after taking the puck away? In the NHL fights = money. I play gurls 'AA hockey and we dont fight like that, sometimes it happends but not at all like in professional leagues, but fighting is part of hockey and if you dont like it you should probably start watching another sport
Brad 17-Nov-03
Hockey is the fastest sport I know off, I've played it since I was 5 and still playing Juniors in canada right now hockey is fast and you have to be in good shape to play it If you walked into a hockey locker room you would see everyone has an outstanding body because your constanly loosing calories out on the ICE. The violence part of the game has been around since it started that's why it is so exciting if you didn't have hitting, fight  ing, sla  shing, tripping the sport would be just like any other sport that's why in my book it's the best sport on this earth
Tara 16-Nov-03
Umm have u ever played a sport before? it doesn't seem like it, i've been playing in a hockey girls hockey league, and during the game at time it gets intense and u want to win badly, so u put ur body into it. If u went aorund making sure u didn't touch anyone the sport wouldn't be fun or challenging..i have an idea! you go walk around with a helmet (just incase anyone come close to u!)i have an idea! you go walk around with a helmet (just incase someone comes close to u)
Jenna View Profile 14-Nov-03
uh, because it's fun. if you actually watch the game i'm sure you would see that there is about 55 min of playing, and MAYBE 5 min of fighting. If you don't wanna play, fine. Go sit on your bed if it's not too violent for you.

mackenzie is Right its not a dangerous sport you just have to know how to play smart and not get hurt its not that dangerous . boxing is worse then hockey and so is football and wresoling.

Why would you want to play a sport that is so violent?
Hockey is not as violent as it is often shown to be. Why would anyone want to play football? It's just as violent, HUGE people are smashing into each other every few seconds. I want to play because I :) the sport, I :) the feeling I get stepping on the ice, from stopping a 2-man breakaway, from hearing the buzzer end the 3rd period and knowing I played great. Same as anyone who plays any sport.

You can watch hockey on TV all the time and someone is always getting hit or pushed into the windows, or people start fighting.
I don't think you know what you are talking about, because if you knew much about hockey you would know the "windows" are called glass. People are not always fighting. The percentage of fights has gone down significantly in the past years, which I think is a shame because it is a great part of the game. It gets players excited which makes them excel in other aspects. Players get checked into the boards as a method by the opposing player to get the puck from them, it's also part of the game. Highly skilled players will strip the puck without checking, it's not always happening.

Why would you even want to play a game if you're going to fight about it?
Because you :) it. That's why you get in fights. Fighting is part of the game, and you're really passonate and you :) your teammates, so if someone throws a dirty check you stick up for them. Also, like any game the object is to win and sometimes winning a fight sparks the emotion of your teammates and helps them play better so you win.

Why can't hockey just be a regular sport and you just play the game it is supposed to be played, instead of always having to fight or knock someone around.
It is a regular sport. So is boxing, football, lacrosse, and several other "violent" sports. Hockey is meant to be played with fights in it, and with the physical side. Even European hockey, which is played on a larger ice surface, resulting in less checking, has a physical side. It's just part of the game.

Why can't you play the game because that is the sport that you :) to play?
Uh, we do. The sport we :) to play has a physical side, that's plain and simple how it is.
