The 2004 World Series
I wrote this short essay right after the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series. It's kind of written in a stream-of-conscious format. Tell me what you think.
We took to the streets, elated and yelling. I saw grown men crying. I saw guys beating the "George St." sign because I screamed, "GEORGE STEINBRENNER STINKS!" I saw the lunar eclipse start just then. I saw people who didn't even know each other start hugging and kissing. People driving down the street, windows down, cheering. I saw Yankees fans muttering, "Well it's only one championship." But it's more than that. And I wouldn't expect jaded Yankees fans to understand. This is a New England tradition passed through generations. It's transcended social change, wars, and turmoil. This is the American pasttime. And for one cool October night, all is right in the world. Thank you, Boston.
