Football Players and Cheerleaders?
Okay, someone clear this up for me. I don't quite understand it. I'm a cheerleader at one of the top competitive college cheer programs in the country. My squad had won NCA College Nationals, the biggest college nationals sanction in the nation, the past 3 years in a row. Anyway, so obviously I'm very competitive and the cheerleaders at my University aren't just here to jump around on the sidelines at the football games, although we do also have a pretty competitive football team.

So my question is why do football players think that cheerleaders automatically swoon over them just because they're football players?! The other day I was in the lobby of one of the buildings on campus, studying for a test in my next class, and this guy comes up and sits in the chair next to me. He actually used the, "You look really familiar, have I met you before?" line, even though I know for a fact I've never met this guy before. Because trust me, if I had, I would have remembered. He talked like a hick and had pretty bad grammar, not at all that I'm saying all football players are dumb or anything. THIS ONE in particular was pretty dumb. Well I hate when people use lines on me, so normally I just say, "No," and then sit back and enjoy seeing them struggle to figure out what to say next, but I guess I thought I'd be nice for once haha! I said, "Well, I'm a cheerleader. Do you go to the games, because maybe you've seen me there?" He says, "Oh you are?! I'm a football player!" as if I'm automatically supposed to become really attracted to him just because I'm a cheerleader and he's a football player. Then of course he starts bragging about football injuries, like you guys all seem to do. Well, I've had a number of injuries in gymnastics and cheerleading and I was like buddy, you're bragging to the wrong girl about injuries; I've had 3 stress fractures and a slipped disc in my back for the past 2 years and I tore my Achilles tendon completely in half, among other injuries. He seemed stumped for a while and then started talking about football again.

Anyway, this isn't the first situation like this I've come across. Football players always seem to think since I'm a cheerleader, being a football player automatically makes me much more attracted to them, but because of that fact it makes me much LESS attracted to them. In fact it's super annoying. What's the deal? Cheerleaders are not attracted to football players because they are football players... well, most of us aren't. I'm sure there are some girls that do, so I can't speak for everyone. But just because a girl is a cheerleader and the guy is a football player doesn't make them a match made in heaven! Why do football players think that?

I have a friend (female) who is a college cheerleader. Her boyfriend is not a football player, but another cheerleader (male). Anyway, I have know her for a few years when we were in high and she never did drool over the football players. She seemed to go for the clean cut, well dressed, intelligent boys. I don't know her current boyfriend, but I assume he is like that.

The thing is that guys are really insecure around hot chicks(that usually means the ones that are on the cheer squad) but the football guys figure that since they are being cheered dfor that they automatically get to pass go and collect cheerleader tang, plus they are usually really cocky which means that the chicks come to them. It all depends on the guy because i know some suave intelligent football players and i know the hicks who cant spell their own name let alone the name of the farm animal the did the night before.

i was kind of hoping maybe some guys would answer this article. i want to know why they think everyone is a cheerleader just to get to the football players. maybe some sucky squads that are just a popularity contest are like that, but the competitive squads (by competitive, i mean good ones that actually have a well known program and are usually in the top 5 at big competitions) aren't like that. we try out because we want to cheer. it's a sport of it's own. we have girls that strictly cheer competition and i'm considering quitting game squad myself and just doing competitions.

That is the way it has always been though! Like in movies and stuff...it screws with the guys, they go to play football just cause they think the girls will drool over them just like a lot of girls I run across that join cheerleading just because they think they guys will :) because they cheer. If you asked me I find it really immature, and like you say I am not going to date or even be interestead in a guy that expects me to be attracted to him because he is a football player...
