How Long To Get Good?
Hey! I'm 14 and I am going to start private ice skating lessons very soon. I will have these lessons every week and sometimes I will practice on my own too... like on the holidays as the ice rink is far away. ..

Right now I can hardly skate without my hand leaving the bar (bad I know!) but I'm desperate to get good. As my lessons will be private, I hope this will be more promising. If I do go once a week with private lessons (I could go more if it gets serious) how long until I can do a simple spin on the ice? Thanks! x x x

Well i began figure skating about a year ago. I go to my rink about 2 times a week, sometimes 3. Getting a private coach is a good idea, i took group classes at first, then when i got a coach he taught me a lot and could focus all on me. We'll one thing i can say is, dont worry .. you will be off of that wall pretty soon I started off exactly the same. Well right now I am working on a moving waltz jump, and one foot spin. I gotta tell you though.. it takes A LOT of practice to become really comfortable on the ice. Before you can work on spins, their are a lot of things to learn though, and depending on how quickly you can get them, the sooner you will be able to start spins. You must get your edges right and learn the beginner things like front and back crossovers, and three turns and stuff. I'd say it took me a couple of months to begin spins. But dont rush into it, it takes a lot of determination for this sport. And another thing is that if you want to get as good as you can, i suggest trying to make it more than just once a week. Not even for a class, but like during a public session or something.. just go and practice, and you'll get better even quicker! DONT get discouaged if you cant do things right away. There have been times i never though i would land a waltz jump! If you l0ve the sport, stick with it, try your hardest, be patient, and most of all.. have fun!
