Why Do You Have To Criticize Me?

My sister is a cheerleader and so is my best friend but I play hockey. Since I used to figure skate, I still know a bunch of jumps and spins and stuff. I was going to help the squad that cheers for hockey. When I showed up for the practice, all the girls started criticizing hockey saying how stupid it was and that girls shouldn't play it. It really upset me but when I said something they basically told me to stay out of it. I hate that girl's hockey is never taken seriously. All of our first place trophies get shoved behind the soda machine where no one can see them. But the boys's fourth and last place trophies are presented as if you should be proud of that. Since I'm captain this year, I want to change some things, but will it come between my cheerleading friends and me? I love my hockey teammates but I also love my other friends too. I'm so lost. Help!

I guess you could say that I'm biased. but... those cheerleaders should shut up, they must know what it's like to be called bimbos and sluts and stuff so they should understand about female hockey.. obviously they don't! I've been playing female hockey since I was 5 years old, I totally understand what you're going through, we hardly ever get any credit for what we do. Only in the last few years have my peers and guys that play realized that we're good and we are able to play the sport just as good as them... although it did take a couple provincial titles and top 3 finishes to do so!! I know about the trophy situation too, first of all, female hockey doesn't have the kind of money that guys hockey does so we get stuck with crappy ass trophies that get locked away where nobody sees them. My association does have it's own trophy case BUT it's in one of the oldest and least used arenas in our city!!! You should just talk to your friends and make them realize you are serious about hockey and need all the support you can get!!!
