Playing Soccer For First Time... Need Tips
I'm 16 years old and up until this summer I wasn't that interested in soccer (football). I got caught up in the World Cup fever and now I'm in love with soccer! Only problem is that I don't know how to play.

I asked the assistant coach at my school if he would put a girl with no experience on the team and he said he would if not a lot of girls try out. So I'm going to conditioning and then I'm going to try out. I figure the coaches might give me a chance if I just have good dribbling and passing skills. Can anybody give me some tips on dribbling, especially with using both feet. Any other tips are welcome. Thanks! :)

well i hope you did well on your soccer try outs i have been in soccer all that i can rember. i play basketball too. soccer is one of my all time favorite sports. well on dribbleing some of the advice that i can give you is keep your head up do not look down. and on throw ins do not let both feet come off the ground. if you are a gollie or plan to try out for a gollie then you need to be able to jump high and be ready to dive. i hope that you make the team!
and i hope that i helped.

So far I think I'm doing ok on the dribbling and passing drills. My running could be a lot better. I couldn't go to the conditioning because I had a heel sprain and now that I'm back on my feet, they hurt so much when we run. This really slows me down. I don't know if something is wrong with my feet or if they just hurt because I was inactive before tryouts. The coach said that they'll probably cut a few people on thursday. If my running doesn't get a lot better, I think I might be one of them. I don't know what to do!

hey Yetunde!!! i saw ur article and i have been playing since i was four and i currently play on a select team. first off, congrats for getting an approval from the coach. some coaches r jerks, but its good that urs isnt!! also, kudos to u for taking some conditioning!! fitness is very important to the game and u have to always stay fit or else u fall behind. to answer ur question, when u dribble, u can use many different surfaces. the easiest is the inside of ur foot. when u dribble with the inside, tap the ball slightly in front of u with one foot , take a stride, and tap it again with the other foot, alternating feet as often as possible. if u want to dribble with ur laces, make sure that ur toe is down and ur ankle is locked. again, tap the ball, take a stride and tap it with the opposite foot. when u pass, make sure that ur pass is firm and that it will get to where its going. u can also pass with different surfaces. when u pass ith ur inside, lock ur ankle and face the ball straight on, not side-ways. hit the ball firmly and follow through by continuing ur foot motion for a little ways. if u pass with ur laces, make sure that ur toe is down and ur ankle is locked. a pass with ur laces is more powerful and can travel further. when u pass with ur laces, softly strike the ball and follw through. if u have any other questions, post them and ill try my best to give u a good answer. hope all of this helps!!! good luck at tryouts!!!
