Please Help =/
I'm almost 14 years old. I've been doing gymnastics for 9 years. I'm not on a team or anything, I just take classes. One gymnastics class (novice 3), one tumbling class (intermediate), then sometimes I go to open workout with my friends and practice. Next year is high school, which means trying out for the gymnastics team. I'm happy because everybody makes the team, although if you can't do certain things, you can't compete. For as long as I've been in gymnastics, I still haven't gotten my backhandspring. On bars I'm working kips and fly aways, on beam I'm working back walkovers, on tumble track, I can do a backhandspring backtuck, on vault I'm working half on, full turn and half turn off, and on floor... well my backhandspring. All my friends are on teams already and are A LOT better than me. My best friend is the same age as me and is an elite gymnast. I dream of doing it in college and maybe even going beyond that. I want to be really good in gymnastics, and I try my best at all my practices. Although, I feel I need be in a higher level to get where I want to be when I'm older. I don't know what else to do besides try my best to get me there. I just don't seem to succeed at all. Help? =/

Honestly you might need a new coach. That is incredible that you don't have your back handspring yet I am thinking that you just need it to be explained to you a differently way or you need to practice different drills that will help you progress to the skill. There is no way you would make a college team without a backhand spring considering that you have to do one on the beam at the collegate level. To be competative at all in high school you need to have your kip and atleast a tuck and back handspring on the floor and beam. Good Luck!
