All-Star Cheerleading Questions
So my friend is begging me to join her All-Star team because so many of the members are either seniors or quitting, and she's convinced that I'd be a good cheerleader (don't ask me why, I've never done cheer in my life)!

...And I was wondering if any of you guys are All-Stars, and what is your program like? What is your practice schedule like? What are the costs (for classes, uniforms, competitions, etc. )? Also, do any of your All-Star gyms have dance teams also?

The gym my friend wants me to join has a hip hop team and if I could get on it, I'd probably be more inclined to do that because dance is definitely more my thing (only because I have never done cheer before and I only have a little gymnastics experience).

So any input would be great. Thanks!

im an all-star cheerleader. and its soo much fun, but you also have to dedicate yourself to two-five practices a week and the cost is 2000-3000$$ (at least 4 my team)

i would go 4 it

that sucks. you'll surely be able to go back eventually though. i tore my achilles tendon completely in half (in cheerleading) and had surgery on it, but was back to tumbling, running and everything else in about 7 months.

Thanks for the info.

As it turns out,I won't be able to cheer this year because I have to have surgery done on my ankle to fix the instability (I'll have it in July which is when cheer starts),and I won't be going back to any activity for quite awhile after...

i cheered all-star at Cheer Dyanmix (www.cheerdynamix.com). it's one of the most competitive gyms in the nation and the largest gym in Oklahoma, so it was pretty time consuming and LOTS of hard work. there were 2-3 3hr practices a week, depending on how close it was to a competition. if it's getting close to a competition, especially a big one like NCA or Worlds we would practice more often than usual. then on top of that every all-star squad member (except maybe like the minis and peewees) were required to take at least 1 tumbling class outside of practices. you had to sign in and they would keep track of it if you weren't going to tumbling classes.

it can get very expensive if your squad travels a lot. between my sister and me, my mom said we spent around $6,000 dollars a year! that includes gas (we lived 30 minutes from the gym), uniforms, coaches fees, competition fees, hotel fees, and extra competition fees for the individuals competitions i did..... and that was for 2 girls, so split that in about half. you can bet my sister and i didn't spend a lot of money shopping or going out in high school, but it was worth it.

CDX is a very competitive gym with some of the best coaches in the nation though, so that's probably on the high end. but i'd say you're definitely not going to get away with any less than $1,000 for one year of all-star cheerleading.
