The Swimmer
I'm a 13-year-old. I have been swimming competitively ever since I was four, and I only have one good knee. The other one falls and pops out constantly. I have done all the exercises and gone to all the doctors. I have the fastest times from the middle school and high school records, and I'm only a young one! If anyone is a medical genius in training, can you recommend some waterproof sportswear I could wear to help protect my knee? Please help. One day I aspire to be in the Olympics, maybe even go pro. And yes, I am a girl; don't get that from the name much.

i don't know what you could do, im 13 myself, but maybe just do some easy exercises and streches to help your knee get stronger, it mite ease it a bit and perhaps rub creams into it. maybe you do to much exercise or somthing, This is what i would do, hope this will help you x

You can not compete with anything on your knee. No wraps, nothing. Unless you want to be DQed. I thought you would have known that since you've swam for so long... I would recommend staying away from anything that hurts it. I messed up my knee. It doesn't jsut pop out, my knee cap can go all the way behind me knee and believe me, it hurts liek hell. I do not swim breast at practice because of it, but yet still manage to somehow swim it in meets.

I wish you the best of luck with swimming, but would like you to revaluate your goals. I'm not saying you won't make it to the Olympics/turn pro, but jsut be sure to take it one step at a time. I'm not sure what level you are at, but like make it to "Junior Olympics" than "Top 16" then "Top 8" then "zones", "Sectionals" and so on, so forth. Discuss goals with your caoches. Anything is possible. A year and a half, when I first messed up me knee, I wasn't even sure if I could swim again. This year, though, I qualified for Nationals and swam three events there plus a relay. Just keep at it and believe. I'm not expecting to make it to the Olympics, hell not even NCAAs if I swim D1(in three years...I'm only 15...) So, jsut keep it up.
