HELP
I am an eighth grader going into ninth grade next year and I really really really want to be a cheerleader soo badly. The problem is that I am like one of the types of people who are like really shy except to their friends and I also get like straight A's. I have no previous training but I am going to take tumbling and cheer in the summer. So should I be a cheerleader cause I really want to be one? How can I be more flexible- so I can do like splits, split jumps, and stuff like that. I stretch like for two hours everyday but I don't think its working. So can someone tell me a stretch that works. And what does it take to be a cheerleader?

Honey I think you would be a very good cheerleader!! Just go to tumbling camp and the more you practice the better you'll get.. I am in the ninth going to the tenth next year and i started cheering when i was in the seventh grade and have been cheering every since....But you will have to break out your shyness because cheering in high school you will have to cheer in front of very big crowds!!!but you shouldn't listen to what other people have to say you just do what ever is in your heart!!! But just stick to your plan and keep practicing everyday you WILL GET BETTER and i know that for a fact...And by the time you reach the ninth grade next year when you try out just do your best and you will make it!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

What does it take to be a cheerleader? - The fact that you want to be one, of course! When you have the interest and passion, nothing will come your way. All the best!

Lots and lots of pep, thats for sure. cheerleading is not just about being flexible, its about being able to work as a team as well. but i wont lie to you, you need to try and break out of your shy shell if u plan on becoming a cheerleader, if you really want it, im sure u can do it :) have some confidence in yourself, and make sure u practise. me personally, cheerleadings never been my thing.

anything that you feel a stretch in should be working your flexibility. if you're stretching and it's not working, the problem is probably either you're not holding it long enough or you're not pushing it far enough. i don't want to give you the idea that you need to kill yourself, but if it's not uncomfortable then you're not stretching. it should burn a little bit. and don't bounce. just go down as far as you can into your stretch and then hold it for a minute or two - longer if you can stand it. i used to do my splits during commercial breaks when i'd watch TV.

i don't understand why you think being shy or being smart is a problem. are you saying we're dumb? i got straight As too. and when i started cheerleading in junior high i was pretty shy too. just as long as you can fake being outgoing in front of a crowd and smile and perform.
