Hi, I've been an All-Star (competitive) Cheerleader for 5 years, a Varsity Cheerleader for 3 years (i quit last year cause they sucked) and this year I made my school's first ever dance team this year. We've always had a Pom squad but only really sucky girls tried out cause they wanted to wear the skirts and no girls that were actually good dancers would try out cause it would be so embarassing cause the team was so horrible. The Pom now will only do flags at games and dance with the band, and the dance team will perform dances at halftime and dance alongside the cheerleaders on the sidelines and yell with them at games. The Pom isn't going to compete either now since we've got a dance team that can actually dance. I've never taken dance but because of my past in Gymnastics and Cheerleading i was able to do all the leaps, turns, and dances easily. But anyways, we just got back from UDA Dance camp 2 days ago and we did very well. We got 2nd on our Home Routine we brought to Camp, got a spirit stick every night and a spirit trophy at the end of the week, and 3 girls (including me!) made UDA All-Star Dancer from our squad. And anyways i decided i'd take a peek at the Dance section of this site cause i'm a Varsity Dancer now (LoL) and i was taking some of the polls and was surprised to see how one of the polls it asked "What sport do Dancers hate most" and the most hated sport was cheerleading. Why is that? No, Dancers don't tumble (flips) or stunt (lifting or throwing girls in the air) and Cheerleaders don't do so much in the way of turns and that kinda stuff but the two do have a lot in common. Why do dancers supposedly hate cheerleaders so much? It makes no sense to me.

hey, you sound really good! I'm a dancer, and you wanna know the truth? A lot of dancer are just to stuck up sometimes and cheerleading to some of us (don't want to be stereotypical) is like nothing compared to the hard core dancing we do. But actually, if you think about it, we DO take to strength, energy, and skill for granted in cheerleaders. I guess we just tend to think cheerleaders are all too preppy and bouncy for us. Whoa, and I was the one trying not to be stereotypical. Thanx for writing this article, I think I just got whole new view on cheerleading! eep it up! b/c yeah, we do have a lot in common.

actually i think it's a false stereotype of dancers...i dont' know any dancers who are mean to cheerleaders...i dance hardcore and do some cheering so i have not prejudices against cheerleaders....it's tough!! it's really hard work ((not that dance isn't by ANY means)) i think both dancers & cheerleaders should be respected for what we do...it's not easty!!

It always bothers me when people don't like cheerleaders. I'm a dancer and have no problem with cheerleading. I kinda wish I did that, but now that I'm 17 it is kinda late to start it now. I think when I was younger, of course it is hard to remember. I wasn't very fond of cheerleaders but I think that was because I was jealous. I have no problem with them now, and I've grown up a lot since my middle school days and aren't jealous of cheerleaders. It takes skill, and hard work for both dancing and cheerleading and it is dumb for the two to hate eac her.

i dont really understand why dancers hate some cheerleaders. most kids at our school think that the dancers are more stuck up and snobby than our cheerleaders. i have no problem with cheerleaders because im a varsity co captain cheerleader and also a dance team 2nd lt. so i em both!!!!!!!!!!

i used to be a cheerleader when i was little & i've been dancin since i was three. i would never be a cheerleader for my school because the cheerleaders really suck & its embarrasing but i have nothing against cheerleaders. i think that dancers just feel like we work a lot harder than cheerleaders do.

because cheerleaders are jealous cause all they are dancers gone retarded !!!!!!!!!!!!!11
08-21-04 3:44 PM
no actually i was never jealous of a dancer in my life. i could stoop to your low, low level and come back with an insult... but i won't. i'm not that immature
08-21-04 3:47 PM
oh and cheerleaders work just as hard as dancers, amanda. how many injuries have you had? me: torn Achilles Tendon (surgery), torn MCL, stress fractures in my back which have been there for a year and never healed because i still tumble on them, not to mention little stuff like broken toes, arms, noses, black eyes......
your turn....
i'm not sayin dancers don't work hard, but don't you dare say that cheerleaders don't, because you have no clue
08-25-04 12:17 PM
like i said...i have nothing against cheerleaders. i was just saying that most dancers think that they work harder than cheerleaders

and when u think about it i was just answerin ur question "why do dancers hate cheerleaders?" so i really dont see y u have a problem w/ my answer. if u expected for everybody to be all like "dancers dont hate cheerleaders they them" then u were obviously wrong. dont ask a question if u are just going to complain about the answers u get cuz i just told u the truth and if u dont wanna hear that then dont ask why dancers hate cheerleaders. thats just common sense
09-08-04 10:30 AM
well i'd like to hear about your injuries then if you work harder than me
09-15-04 1:53 AM
oh add another to my list... i popped a rib outta place 2 days ago in cheerleading practice.
09-21-04 7:51 PM
Just cuz u get injured dont mean u been working out harder..
09-22-04 2:03 AM
uh yeah actually it does because every time the reason for injury has been "overworking" on every one except for my MCL

maybe becaise they were overworking themselves??? duh

Im a dancer as well as a cheerleader. Cheerleaders seem to think that they are better than everyone and dancers just think they can do anything. Maybe thats why alot hate eac her.
12-05-04 6:42 PM
Torrie or Torry watever u just hatin on the dancers cuz we can dance a lot better than ur azz so i am gonna end this with a freak u and have a day.
12-05-04 11:39 PM
who's torrie?

well personally it's not that i don't like cheerleaders, but how they say it's a sport (which it's not unless it's competative cheer) and complain about how hard practice is when it's NOTHING compared to other, real, sports annoys me ha, and it's pointless to have them when we can cheer on our own . My school just got rid of side-line cheer thank goodness. -don't get me wrong though i have friends that are cheerleaders and so on..there's just a personality clash b/t me and a lot of cheerleaders cause i'm not peppy.., you know what i mean?

I was a former Pop Warner cheerleader and quite becasue it was cutting into dance, and let me tell u they do nothing compared to us. So my friends who are all varsity cheerleaders at school wanted me to try out, becasue i'm little flexiable can flip and a good dancer. i went to the 1st day of audtions and cheerleading is soooo different. i realised that they are complety differernt sports ans just can't be compared. Dancers think that cheerleading is a less extreme form of dance. And cheerleaders the opposite but unless both teams and walk in the other shoes they will never gian respect for each other.
01-05-05 11:28 PM
pop warner is LITTLE GIRLS and is not the real thing. how can you compare that to high school and college aged athletes? all they do in pop warner is jump around (which trust me is not what we do in All-Star and college)

Well, I am a dancer and on my team we talk about cheer all the time but first ill tell you what kind of dancer i am: i am on a competive team and we travel in and out of state not to be cocky but we do win first most of the time i dance over 20 hours a week, and in top condition, an athlete i do jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, tap, you name it so anyways, reasons why dancers hate cheer: They look stupid when "doin what they do" Anytime you wave a ball of fluff around you just look like a dork They are not athletes People often group us with teh cheerleaders-which is a diss to us If you need an 8 count to prepare for a jump that is two inches off the ground you are just lame Cheer/hip-hop makes me want to barf Most school cheer squads are bad If you can not hear the counts in the music, dont try please Cheer is painful to watch and cheerleaders think they could keep up with us dancers, not a chance.

and katie with all teh injuries? injuries aer not something to boast about, that means that either you are a klutz or you do not work out properly or you do not stretch before or your coach does not teach you how to take care of your body
