I'm not sure if all of you have been made aware that Kansas was hit by a toalt of 47 tornados on the night of March 28, 2007. In my rual community of Jetmore, KS farmers have reported over 2100 head of cattle missing, 6 homed destroyed entirly, and thankfuly only 1 injury. People of the surrounding countyside have lost all power and will not have power for months due to entire lines missing. a totla of 7 tornados touched down within Hodgemen County within 30 minutes and stayed for an unusual amount of time.
Many persoal effects were lost including a 30 something year old wedding ring and fine china, cloths, ect... One family even lost 8 vehicles all of which were in good condition.
Thankfuly all residents of Hodgemen County were prepard for what was comming and knew exactly how and when to react in the proper manner.
Local storm spotters and residents flocked to the sight of these tornados in order to get a full glimps of the damage being caused.
It is expected to be near the same situation later on today, In the event of another breakout of tornados, SW Kansas will be totaly prepared and ready to take action durring and in the aftermath of the storm.
Jetmore residents have shown there kindness by schedualing a county-wide clean up for those families who had there homes destroyed.
A free will donation BBQ will be held on the 14th of next month to raise money for the recovery of these families. A volleyball touny will be held on that same day and the cost if 5 dollars per person. This is all sponsored by the local KAYS, volunteers, and Jetmore High School students. If anyone can make it, it is greatly appreciated and everyone is welcome. A music concert will be held following the BBQ, addmission is free and they are accepting donations. All proceeds will go to the families affected by the storm. | |
