Hi. I'm an eighth grade girl, and I play basketball on a very good team. My good friend's dad coaches. I have been having a very bad year though, in school basketball I two different fingers at different times, and when I came back I had to play on the B team! I have been playing basketball for four and a half years, so being asked to be on our school's B team was sort of an insult, when there are girls I can kill on A team. That totally blew my confidence. And then a while ago, I had an asthma attack during a key point of a game, and that had me shooken up. Summer's almost here, my parents won't let me go to camp because I have to babysit the siblings, and I really need to get ready for high school tryouts!! So what I'm asking for are tips for drills you can do, good conditioning plans, what YOUR high school tryouts were/are like, and just some words of encouragement. Thanks! | |

| I wouldn't necessarily say it is more difficult than the average team but it usually depends on how competitive the team is. Say, if you look into All-Star Varsity, then you have to be a great player overall and usually in the All-Star Basketball, you can't make a major mistake during try-outs. Then, if you go into the regular squad, they'll usually take thirty out of forty some kids like the 7th Grade Team here did. Basically, we had a group of thirty and they all scored well but there were only twenty-five positions on the team so we had to make another try-out and eliminate five of the temporary players. Only three or four games were completed before the positions decreased, I believe. | |

| Practice is going to be a big key for you as well. It doesn't always mean run three miles like some guy said. You'll just have to practice the drills over time and see if you'd prefer to try-out. Who knows, you could get in with a foul. I don't know how things go where you live. | |
